Disclaimer :
Most of our products are made by genuine Native Americans. However, some are not made by Native Americans, nor do they have any historic value as artifacts of Native American people. They are reproductions of the Native Americans, Western and/or Southwestern peoples. They are not Indian products or Indian produced items as defined by 26 USA-305 et Seq or by the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990 (18 U.S.C. 1159, 25 U.S.C. 305 et seq.) Authentic Native American made items will be noted as "Authentic" or "Certified Authentic" & will be accompanied with certification of the Indian artists name, tribal affiliation & enrollment number

Many of the products on my website have been designed and hand made by Native Americans. However, many of these artists, despite their birth and heritage, cannot legally call their work Native American made. The U.S. Government has created a law and system making it difficult for many true Native American artists to obtain the proper tribal registration and identification due to the lengthy and complicated process. While some Native American artists do indeed have the proper registration and census number, some of them do not. Therefore, you will see below a disclaimer which is required by law to post onto our site.

Dolls

Dolls have been a part of our lives since the beginning. They date back in human history to prehistoric times and were made for religious and playing purposes. The oldest found artifact in doll history is a part from an alabaster doll from ancient Babylonian times that had a pair of movable arms. The ancient Egyptians were buried with small pottery dolls that were believed to act as servants to the soul of the deceased in the afterlife. In more recent centuries mothers started making rag dolls for their children. Rag Doll is the common name for a doll made from cloth. Rag Dolls were first manufactured in the 1850s in England and the U.S.

Hand Carved Hopi Indian Eagle Dancer Kachina Doll by Milton Howard

By Milton Howard, Hopi Indian, master Kachina carver. This Eagle Kachina is superb in detail. It looks like one solid piece with the exception of the bells and a few small feathers on his head.  From the fine lines of the feather work, the beaded look in the ankle bracelets to the carving of his toenails. Milton uses stain to bring out the natural wood grain of the customary cottonwood root, along with paint to enhance and show more detail. He takes the time, and you can only imagine the patience it must demand, to feature and enhance every tiny detail line.

14" tall including the base and a wing span of 12-1/2".

12-1/2" wide, and will fit in a 14" by 10" area comfortably.

Item Number: 0011-MKD

Price :  $1400.00

For over 2000 years the Hopi Indians of the Southwest have danced beneath the heavens, praying to the great spirits for rain and a bountiful harvest. These spirits are embodied by Kachinas(ka chee`nas). Kachinas represent the spirits of created beings like the soaring eagle and the cunning wolf. During religious ceremonies, the Hopi Indians dress up in the elaborate costumes of Kachinas in a celebration of the harmony of creation.
